Million Dollar Homepage was an interesting concept, but it really had no basis or content to make users want to come back to the site aside from seeing how much more money he has made. On top of that it didn't really give an opportunity to promote the advertisers that were paying him money aside from the one ad that they would receive.

SmashMyViper.com is continually updated with content, pictures, and videos. It makes people want to come back to the site to see what else is going on with the Viper damage as well as to see how much more money we've made. Since we let the advertisers decide on the kind of damage that gets done, people are interested in seeing what these advertisers have come up with as an idea. Not only does this bring people back to the site and creating a viral idea that spreads around, but it allows advertisers to have people associate with their brand.

For example PongAlong.com, a company that makes and sell beer pong tables, sent us one of their tables and paid for an advertisement and damage to the Viper. Not only did they receive on ad on our grid and a feature in our video, but we also used product placement in the video allowing viewers to see their product in use.

Another company, Eco-Strip.com, which makes environmentally paint removal tools, sent us a paint scraper. Rather than keying the car with a key, we used their paint scraper in a video.

Things like this are pushing advertisers products right in the face of people, in the midst of great content. This is something Million Dollar Homepage could never offer. We have dedicated viewers that come back for more, which also continues the association with future advertisers and allows for branding opportunities.

Gear6.net is an automotive weblog that recently launched. They were looking for ways to increase their traffic and let the world know they exist. They spent just $100 for a 100 pixel ad and key mark damage to the Viper. They got much more in return...and it only gets better. To say the least we've been very pleased with the results. The day after our ad appeared on SMV the traffic to our site almost doubled. Traffic to our site has been increasing everyday from a variety of sources but we still are seeing a good percentage coming from SMV.com, and consistently every day our top referrer is SMV; and that is with a small 10x10 ad. With the quality of the website and 'damage videos' it seems to keep people coming back to the site to see what has happened to the car and the radio interviews and 'buzz' around the net is great.

We've also seen google hits to Gear6 looking for the keywords Smash My Viper and for that matter Technorati.com has passed traffic on the same type of blog searches.

Take a look at their referral domains chart for December. This is after just a couple weeks on SmashMyViper.com, and they generated thousands of clicks to their site! Imagine what a larger ad could do? Imagine how many more people would watch a video with more than a key mark? Perhaps a Louisville Slugger baseball bat?
